چکیده

We report the discovery of a 200 mHz quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) in the X-ray emission from a bright ultra-luminous X-ray source (ULX) Holmberg IX X-1 using a long XMM-Newton observation. The QPO has a centroid at νQPO = 202.5 +4.9 −3.8 mHz, a coherence Q ≡ νQPO/∆νFWHM ≈ 9.3 and an amplitude (rms) of 6% in the 0.2 − 10 keV band. This is only the second detection of a QPO from an ULX, after M 82 X-1, and provides strong evidence against beaming. The power spectrum is well fitted by a power law with an index of ≈ 0.7. The total integrated power (rms) is ≈ 9.4% in the 0.001− 1 Hz range. The X-ray spectrum shows clear evidence for a soft X-ray excess component that is well described by a multicolor disk blackbody (kTin ∼ 0.3 keV) and a high energy curvature that can be modeled either by a cut-off power law (Γ ∼ 1; Ecutoff = 9 keV) or as a strongly Comptonized continuum in an optically thick (τ ≈ 7.3) and cool (kTe ≈ 3 keV) plasma. Both the presence of the QPO and the shape of the X-ray spectrum strongly suggest that the ULX is not in the high/soft or thermally dominated state. A truncated disk and inner optically thick corona may explain the observed X-ray spectrum and the presence of the QPO. Spectral differences between the radio-loud and radio-quiet low-hard states of GRS 1915+105: possible detection of synchrotron radiation in X-rays

The Galactic microquasar GRS 1915+105 exhibits several episodes of steady X-ray emission characterized by a hard power-law spectrum and intense Quasi Periodic Oscillations. It is known that there are two types of such low-hard states, one with steady radio emission and the other without any significant radio emission. We present the results of a detailed X-ray spectroscopic study of GRS 1915+10...

BROADBAND X-RAY SPECTRA OF THE ULTRALUMINOUS X-RAY SOURCE HOLMBERG IX X-1 OBSERVED WITH NuSTAR, XMM-NEWTON AND SUZAKU

We present results from the coordinated broadband X-ray observations of the extreme ultraluminous X-ray source Holmberg IX X-1 performed by NuSTAR, XMM-Newton and Suzaku in late 2012. These observations provide the first high-quality spectra of Holmberg IX X-1 above 10 keV to date, extending the X-ray coverage of this remarkable source up to ∼30 keV. Broadband observations were undertaken at tw...

X-ray Monitoring of Ultraluminous X-ray Sources

X-ray monitoring observations were performed with the Swift observatory of the ultraluminous Xray sources Holmberg IX X-1, NGC 5408 X-1, and NGC 4395 X-2 and also of the nuclear X-ray source in NGC 4395. Holmberg IX X-1 remains in the hard X-ray spectral state as its flux varies by a factor of 7 up to an (isotropic) luminosity of 2.8 × 10 erg s. This behavior may suggest an unusually massive co...

Simultaneous X-ray/optical observations of GX 9+9 (4U1728–16)

We report on the results of the first simultaneous X-ray (RXTE) and optical (SAAO) observations of the luminous low mass X-ray binary (LMXB) GX9+9 in 1999 August. The high-speed optical photometry revealed an orbital period of 4.1958 hr and confirmed previous observations, but with greater precision. No X-ray modulation was found at the orbital period. On shorter timescales, a possible 1.4-hr v...

Monitoring with the Ryle Telescope at 15 GHz of the Galactic X-ray transient source GRS 1915+105 has revealed a remarkable range of rapid and extended flares which appear to be related to the X-ray emission as recorded by the RXTE all-sky monitor. Quasi-periodic oscillations in the range 20 – 40 min have been found and are probably related to oscillations in the soft X-ray flux.
